History of Mahle GmbH

Mahle GmbH is an important supplier for the commercial vehicle and automotive industry and thus also for the agricultural engineering sector. Mahle produces products for ...combustion engines such as pistons, cylinders and valve controls Mahle GmbH has its origins in 1920, when Hermann Mahle joined the company "Versuchsbau Hellmuth Hirth". In 1922 Ernst Mahle joined and in 1924 the company name was changed to Elektrometall GmbH. In the years that followed, the company focused on research into pistons, especially light-alloy pistons. In 1938 the company was renamed Mahle KG.

Through various company takeovers, such as the majority takeover of Lektrika (Iskra) in 2014, the group has steadily expanded its product portfolio and is now divided into five business areas: engine systems and components, filtration and engine peripherals, thermal management, aftermarket, and electronics and mechatronics.

In 1964, company founders Ernst and Hermann Mahle founded MAHLE-Stiftung GmbH, which today owns 99.9% of the shares in Mahle GmbH. The remaining 0.1% is owned by the Mabeg-Verein zur Förderung und Beratung der Mahle-Gruppe e. V.. Mahle GmbH as such is the sole owner of 7 different companies, including Mahle Filtersysteme GmbH, Mahle Motorkomponenten GmbH, and Mahle Ventiltrieb GmbH. In addition, it owns a majority stake in Mahle Industrial Thermal Systems GmbH & Co. KG (60%) and Mahle Behr (60.71%).

Mahle is a globally active group with around 71,000 employees and 160 production sites. In addition, innovations are developed and tested at 12 research locations.
